Surprise! Most money on midterms spent by …

They’re the billionaire brothers every leftist loves to hate – worth a combined $80 billion and owners of the second-largest privately run business in the U.S., Koch Industries.

In fact, as the left would have Americans believe, the conniving, filthy rich Koch Brothers, David and Charles, are purchasing the entire political process and “nakedly attempting to buy Congress and the White House.”

The “filthy rich” Koch Brothers are all over the mainstream media as examples of how Republicans are trying to buy the White House.

But the facts tell another story.

The two billionaire mega-donors who spent the most money during the 2014 midterm elections – more than $100 million combined – are both Democrats.

David Koch, the only conservative on the list, is at the bottom of Politico’s list of the top 10 donors, and his brother, Charles, doesn’t even make the cut.

The top donor, leftist billionaire Tom Steyer – who spent $74.3 million – is a leading global warming alarmist.

The second billionaire on the list, leftist Michael Bloomberg – who spent $27.7 million – is a passionate champion of gun control and the leftist Big Gulp Ban and other looney ideas.

Despite the massive cash infusion, neither issue proved popular with the majority of American voters in the Republican landslide the nation witnessed in November.

Nonetheless, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid is known for relentlessly railing against the Koch Brothers on the Senate floor, accusing the wealthy conservative donors of trying to buy elections:

I hope we have once again reminded people that man is not free unless government is limited. There’s a clear cause and effect here that is as neat and predictable as a law of physics: as government expands, liberty contracts. — Ronald Reagan
