Over a 350 year period between 1525 and 1866, the entire history of the slave trade to the New World, a grand total of 10.7 million African slaves landed in North America the Caribbean and South America according to the Trans-Atlantic Slave Trade Database. But just today alone, 46 million human beings are in slavery.
America has been obsessed with the Trans-Atlantic Slave Trade even though it ended over 150 years ago and no one alive today was involved. There is nothing more that can be said or done that has not already been said or done many times over. It is a terribly sad historical fact.
But it is history.
Why don’t we refocus that energy into something that would actually make a difference in people suffering under slavery today?
Today nearly 46 million human beings are in slavery, a new report released this week concluded. There are 5 times more people living as slaves right now that were slaves during the entire 350 year history of the Trans-Atlantic Slave Trade! And amazingly no one talks much about it. According to the third annual Global Slavery Index, which gathers and analyzes surveys conducted by Gallup, the number of people forced into “modern slavery,” or “human trafficking, forced labor, debt bondage, forced or commercial sexual exploitation,” rose from 35.8 million to 45.8 million since 2014 — a 28 percent increase.
In the African country of Mauritania it is still legal to inherit slaves. Do we hear about this in the US? Only if you read alternative news sites. Of course none of this is discussed or shown in the MSM or taught in the common-core schools of the USSA.
